Rightfully mine !!

Today is supposedly 'Human Rights' day and on radio the RJ was asking about things I think I am rightfully supposed to have but don’t.. trivial or otherwise. This got me thinking..

I used to love going out to dance, it was my “fun” way of staying fit and one day some stupid politician decided that there wont be any dancing in Bangalore and poof went all my fun. Who is he to govern my social life? Don’t I have the right to decide if I want to dance or not? If some people don’t like it, they can lead a dull boring life and stay home but why make a “RULE” around this?

And don’t get me started on ‘moral policing’.. What I wear and how I carry myself is MY RIGHT… no human or otherwise has any right to tell me what to and what not to wear. Neither does anyone have the right to say that women get abused because of what they wear. If someone does a survey on all women who were raped and studied what they were wearing, I am sure 95% of them were fully and decently dressed. So its not the dress but the mind of the pervert which needs a ruling !

And the list goes on and on -
-          Right to have roads that don’t shake up all your bones?
-          Right to complain if a freshly laid road is fiercely dug open on the pretext of finding gold ?
-          Right to trust when someone says “there are no hidden charges”

We make such a hue and cry about us being a free country but what we don’t realize is that we come up with new RULES everyday in the name of legislation, culture and tradition… will this ever change?

  1. WoW! Those thoughts are so resonating! I am not sure why people cannot generally mind their own business :( even when it is not impacting them in any way. This entire notion of 'Right' (not what you mean)or wrong is so subjective and people want to push thier sense of 'Right' on everyone around. Some times I get so mad, but in the end I have realised that I have a choice to react and I choose to ignore what does not align to my values. Let the world be!
