I was watching ‘sex and the city’ for the 400th time, Sarah Jessica Parker is my idol, not for her view on relationships but for her collection of shoes… OMG what amazing shoes !
Anyhow, she said something that caught my attention – “They say there are no good relationships without pain. Some even believe that pain helps GROW the relationship. But when and how do you know that the pain isnt “growth” anymore but it is infact “PAIN”..
How do you know, when you need to make an effort to STOP that pain??
A dear friend gifted me a book for Christmas, ‘Two Fates’ by Judy Balan. It’s a story about a couple who fall in love and get married with loadsa excitement and love, to only realize that the relationship was maybe not meant to be.
The idea of falling in love is a lot greater than actually continuing to remain in love and to lead a happy life together.
The book beautifully talks about how really small things drives one to hate the one you fell in love with .. things that didn’t matter before….. things that sound lame to someone else, even things that made you fall in love with the person in the first place .. becomes the driving force to almost ending the relationship. The couple in the book however manage to get back together and live happily ever after but how many times does it happen in “real” life? And at what cost? Is it worth the pain?
This blog is not my take on relationships, I don’t think I have an opinion about it as yet…… but maybe an awakening for everyone who might be going through this PAIN. Relationships are hard but maybe the thought of ‘not being in one’ is even harder. So it is up to us to decide if the PAIN is growth or if the PAIN is infact pain and THAT realization will help in making a decision, one way or the other…
So, maybe it is time for us to think about all our relationships and see where we are growing and where we are hurting. If we are hurting, it doesn’t mean we need to end it but maybe it is important to talk about it, to see if the pain can be reduced.
PS – The book is worth a read… might make you realize that you don’t need to look hard to find love but you might have to work a little harder to keep it that way !
I loved the quote - " You don’t need to look hard to find love but you might have to work a little harder to keep it that way ! "
