Simplicity overrated??

I come from a family that believes in simplicity. All through my childhood, I had what I needed to be happy but life was simple and basic. As I grew up, my lifestyle changed but I wanted to test if my simple roots are still with me... If I can still mange to be happy and comfortable with a simple life.

I tested it by going on a "budget" trip with a good friend. When I say "budget" trip, I mean, no car picking us up from airport, no chauffer, no fancy rooms, no multi cuisine restaurant, no fixed itinerary & travel from one place to another stuffed like chickens with strange men breathing down our neck.....  Basically a nomadic life... And to add to that I signed up for a super tough trek ( my idea of a vacation is to laze on a beach with someone giving me a foot massage......so you can imagine what I might have felt about a strenuous trek up & down a hill for 5hrs ).

Anyway, coming to my learning from this trip...

I think my simple roots are buried too far down... I have come to realize that I have gotten too used to the comforts of modern life, I like my moderately fancy life, I like splurging on myself every once in a while, I like fancy restaurants and cars... basically love the frills and fancies of the world !

"Why lead a simple life ..when you have a choice otherwise"... I don't say this with arrogance but with honesty.. I will do what makes me happy and keeps me comfortable and if that is a "good" life, then so be it. It is enough for me to know that if forced, I can survive with bare minimum but for now I chose to live life KING SIZE...
